Overview
Captive power generation plays a crucial role in our operations by providing a reliable and efficient energy source for our manufacturing processes. By establishing our own power generation facilities, we enhance our energy independence and reduce reliance on external power sources, ensuring uninterrupted production.
Installed Capacity
We have recently increased the installed capacity of our captive power plant from 15 MW to 25 MW. This enhancement allows us to meet our operational energy requirements effectively and ensures that we can sustain high levels of production without being adversely affected by fluctuations in external energy supply.
Power Generation Process
- WHRB-Based Power Plant : Our Waste Heat Recovery Boiler (WHRB) based power plant which operates with an installed capacity of 16 MW, generates electricity by utilizing flue gases from Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) kilns. This process not only produces power but also promotes energy conservation as it does not require additional fuel. By harnessing waste heat, we contribute to a more sustainable manufacturing model.
- AFBC-Based Power Plant : In addition, we operate an Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Combustion (AFBC) boiler based power plant with an installed capacity of 9 MW, which is designed to efficiently combust low-quality fuels, such as Dolochar—a by-product of the sponge iron manufacturing process. This innovative approach not only reduces waste but also maximizes resource utilization, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.
